It’s hard to know where to begin when you want to start looking for a home to call your own. There are often a million questions rolling around in your mind that may be keeping you from taking the first step into home ownership, but not to worry—that’s where we come in! This month we will answer some of the most common home buyer questions, so get out your pen and paper because we’re about to hit you with the facts!
What is included in the sale of a home?
Great question! The simple answer is: Just ask. Some sellers may leave behind something like a refrigerator and others may want to take it with them. Your real estate agent will discuss what is included and what is not with the sellers’ real estate agent, and sometimes there is even room for negotiation.
How much are closing costs?
We’re so glad you asked! Closing costs typically run between 2–6% of the loan amount. That means on a $200,000 home loan, you would pay between $4,000–$12,000. However, there are ways to minimize your closing costs—check out our “How to Minimize Your Closing Costs” blog to learn how.
Do I need a home inspection?
This is a good one! While it’s not required, it’s strongly recommended by pretty much every housing professional out there to get a home inspection before buying. Not only does it provide you with protection in case something is wrong, it can also be used as a negotiating tool.
