Windsor Spring Congregate Care Living for Seniors in North Raleigh has become a new home for 14 Hurricane Katrina survivors as well as many of the city’s lower income elderly residents. A ribbon-cutting and dedication will be held at 11 a.m. on November 17 at the development. On hand will be N.C. Housing Finance Agency Board Chairman Lucius Jones, Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker, and State Representative Grier Martin (D-34 th), as well as many of the Hurricane Katrina survivors.
“Windsor Spring is already making a huge difference in the lives of Raleigh ’s seniors who struggle to find safe, adequate and affordable housing,” said Jones. “It also is providing an opportunity to start over for some of the elderly victims of Hurricane Katrina who lost everything they had.”
The privately owned and managed apartments were developed by Evergreen Construction. The 39 apartments were financed with tax credits and a loan awarded by the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency and a loan from the city of Raleigh. The apartments rent for $450 (one bedroom) and $500 (two bedrooms).
