RALEIGH--The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency will hold a public hearing Sept. 25 at 2:30 p.m. to discuss its plan for allocating federal low-income housing tax credits in 2003. The hearing will be at the North Raleigh Hilton, 3415 Wake Forest Rd., Raleigh.
The proposed Qualified Allocation Plan includes application procedures, deadlines and a quantitative rating system that the N.C. Housing Finance Agency will use in evaluating affordable rental developments that apply for tax credits.
In North Carolina, housing tax credits have financed 36,000 affordable apartments valued at more than $2 billion. In return for the tax credits, the private owners agree to keep the rents affordable for families and individuals earning 60 percent of the area median income.
The North Carolina Housing Finance Agency is a self-supporting public agency. It operates the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program under policy guidance of the state’s Tax Reform Allocation Committee, which includes the Secretary of Commerce, State Treasurer, and State Budget Officer.
